For most of the past week I've been a zombie- I don't know what's going on with me much. I feel like I have been plenty active... and chores and everything have gotten done... but mentally I feel like I've been vacant.

Part of this, I'm sure, comes from being a little obsessed with getting into rebinding books. I've been zoning out on the internet looking for the things I will need to do the projects I am envisioning. I also can't seem to pull it together with materials.

For instance, yesterday I went to home depot and picked up everything I will need for my book press (which has really been the hold-up here)I even got them to cut the piece of plywood I chose into the rectangles I needed. When I got it home- they were not quite square- bother! It makes no difference and I can use them but if I'd wanted 'close' I can do 'close' with a hand saw. I did actually want 'exact'. I also discovered that the lovely drill bit set I have goes up to 1/2"... and I need a 5/8" and a 3/4" bit. Oh putz! I got all the material- but didn't check to make sure I had all the tools. I was so sure I would have them.

On the gilding front, I need Armenian Bole- although I did find out how to simply make glair at home. But I've been reading so much about gilding that my head is spinning sometimes and the tools for finishing the cover, I don't see how I could ever afford. I'll have to think of something different.

What I want to do is rebind Stardust in blue and pick out the entire fancy cover on my advance copy in silver. I'd also like to rebind new copies if the first 14 Oz books (the ones by Baum) in a nice green. I have the first book in the copy I like- the other 13 I want with the John Neill illustrations and if I can get the ones with the colour plates (and the Road to Oz with the coloured pages), I want those. I am very unhappy with the Borders leather bounds of those because they have no illustrations at all and that was always something I really loved.

On that note I would also like to get an unabridged copy of Little Women and tip in the illustrations from my mother's Whitman abridged copy printed out on acid free paper.

I'd also like to bind the Jeeves novels that are NOT available in the Heron editions in a binding that matches it as well as I can. That may be tricky.

I haven't decided how I want to bind The Flying Yorkshireman or the rest of Bujold's books. I won't be able to match the Easton bindings at all- they are VERY fancy!

Once again, my ideas run a lot faster than my ability to bring them forth- story of my life. *sigh*

On the hairsticks, I have discovered that I need a larger bead cap to wrap around the bottom of the otter stone. Grumble.

Today I have planned to finish my book press and make pies. Specifically, a strawberry pie and a blueberry dream pie- owing to the fact that I bought several cups of strawberries and blueberries Friday for $2. (Working in a grocery has distinct advantages!)
