I hope everyone had a nice holiday!
Ours was nice... pretty subdued except for Emily being all kinds of excited and Eliz bringing her new puppy (8 weeks old and so very cute! I told her that she finally had a boyfriend of whom I totally approve... or I will as soon as he learns not to make puppy puddles in my floor).
I got the nicest most unexpected gift imaginable from my Mom... the promise of a red sugar maple tree, planted, in my front yard where that blasted weeping cherry has been not-growing for so long. (The weeping cherry was the wasband's idea... and it's never grown higher than my waist which makes it a total failure as a tree.) How original! And it's something I really really wanted too.
I had a nice visit from a friend from high school on Monday and my brother and his wife are here. Eliz didn't stay for dinner... considering the puppy, I was less sad than I otherwise would have been... but it was very nice to have her here for what time she could be.
The only thing is, everyone went overboard with gifts for Emily. I am going to put my foot down for next year. One gift per person and no more! I'm as guilty as anyone too... she really needs to get less stuff. When it hits all at once like that, she can't enjoy it as much and I am trying desperately to wean her away from the materialistic mind set. She was, however, delighted with just about everything and the silk sheets were quite possibly the biggest hit of all.
