For those of you who are interested in my progressive battle with the demon tobacco, I am doing very well so far. (Patches cost as much as cigarettes almost, darn it!) I am also breaking my addiction to sugar... I haven't had sugar since the third. And I have managed to work out both times I should have this week.

Consequently, I have lost three pounds this week, as of this morning.

I have also figured out that one reason I get a craving for a cigarette is that what I really want is a break. Either a physical, get up and stretch break or a mental, 'get me off this crazy planet!' break from what ever I'm doing. To remedy this in a non-harmful way, I now have a scheduled break. No matter what else is going on or how busy I am, at 5 pm everything comes to a screeching halt for Earl Grey and buttered toast. The girls have found out I mean it by asking me to do something or fix something or hand them something during that half an hour and I smile serenely and say "Sure... at 5:30 when my break is over." And when I'm running too fast to be measured and I want a break, I look at the clock and think "It's only X amount of time until 5 and then I can have tea."

Okay, Peter, go ahead and say it... but it's working and right now that what counts!
