Emily and I went to the book fair at her school last night. I had yesterday off which was good... I didn't have to scramble to get cleaned up and dressed for us to make it.

We had a great time... and spent probably more than we should have. My Mom had given her $20 to spend and I made her limit her choices to fall within that budget. One of the books she picked was $10... but she wasn't willing to give it up. Since it's the same book she tried to steal last year that kept her from getting anything at the book fair, I think it's one she really wanted a lot. The other books were ballet related or Barbie related but I made her limit herself to things she could read or could almost read. Then I added a package of posters to colour that she had put on her wish list and two cat related books... Six Dinner Sid and Kitten's First Full Moon. On the way home, I found out that she had wanted the kitten book a LOT but thought it was too expensive to even be wished for. Well, it's a hardback, it was a little expensive, but it was less than we would have paid at a book store and it's one of those that we'll have in the family for generations so I think it was a good investment.

I also had a good chat with her teacher (who was also Elizabeth's teacher, years ago). Come to find out, she quilts and she has the same problem with joining a quilting bee that I do... they all meet at inconvenient times if you work and/or have children. We definitely need to find a group that meets some time when we could go! And, of course, she talked with me about how Emily is doing in school (very well as it happens). She had her classroom set up as a treasure hunt so that the children had to take parents around and show them different parts of the room and tell them about a typical day at school. Very innovative.

Emily also got to introduce me to several of her friends (and their parents) and we were out much past her bedtime... and of course we had to read a story before bed even though we were so very late! She also asked for strawberry milk before bed (which was a good idea... I don't want her being hungry and trying to fall asleep) so we had strawberry milk and Six Dinner Sid. It's a funnier book than I thought and I liked it as much as she did.

I also finished the large flowers on the Luctor et Emergo quilt... and if I ever set myself up to have to "quilt in the ditch" again, somebody kick me in the shins!
