I have planned this year's vacation... or had it planned for me again. I'll be gone from June 18 (very early morning) until the 21st to Memphis to visit my Dad. He's called twice and sent me an email asking me to bring the girls to see him and, all things considered, I want to. He hasn't gotten to see them for several years and I have a sneaking suspicion that we are running out of time.
Or maybe he only thinks he's running out of time...
Either way, I am not going to spend my vacation happily building shelves but rather undertaking a harrowing car journey with one teen ager and one of the "are we there yet?" crowd.
As bad as that sounds, I would rather have this vacation by far over spending a week in the hospital with Eliz having back surgery again. Or even that dreadful week that I took my vacation and promptly came down with the flu... and still cleaned and organized the attic. Or any vacation at all with my ex-husband. They were all disasters of the first water.
I came up with an excellent idea to both control my avarice for Wodehouse and my sugar addiction. If I can make it a week with no sugar at all, I reward me with an inexpensive Wodehouse in the set I really really want right now. So far, it's working.
Tonight, after I get Emily to bed, I am going to roll change from the snack concession at work and do my filing for the week while I watch National Treasure one more time. I'm not sure why I like it so much but it's just a really fun movie for me.
